Our Journey:

Our founder, Dodey Mcjerry Russell, grew up in Africa alongside her remarkable mother, affectionately known as “Girl Lu”. In a world where black mothers are the pillars of their families, Girl Lu was no exception. She was not only a loving mother but also a resilient entrepreneur who engaged in the humble trade of used clothes to provide for her family.
As Dodey and her three sisters stood by Girl Lu’s side, they experienced firsthand the dedication, hard work, and unwavering spirit it took to make ends meet. Those days at the small market stall weren’t just about trading goods; they were lessons in entrepreneurship, values, and the deep bond of family.

A Blossoming Dream:
Tragedy struck in 2021 when Dodey’s beloved Girl Lu left this world to be with the Lord. Left with memories and a heart full of love, Dodey embarked on a journey that would honor Girl Lu’s legacy and her own creativity. It was a lonely place she found herself in, seeking solace and a way to channel her emotions. She ordered a necklace with Girl Lu’s image from Etsy, and when it arrived, the craftsmanship took her breath away.
Inspired by the quality and the desire to keep Girl Lu’s memory alive, Dodey delved into the world of jewelry design. Through countless hours of research, experimentation, and pouring her heart into every piece, DesignsByDodey was born. And just as Girl Lu’s stall had stood as a symbol of strength, Dodey’s creations became a representation of her journey, her heritage, and her dedication.
